Can you use Brand the Impenitent as a torch?

Rules Discussion

"This brand can’t be hidden, but it is visible only to followers of your faith, who see it as clearly as a lit torch."

"A torch sheds bright light in a 20-foot radius (and Dim Light to the next 20 feet)."

This seems to imply:
- All but one of the party declares they follow a Good deity
- The remaining one has Darkvision and follows a different Good deity
- Cast Brand the Impertinent on them and they voluntarily critically fail their save
- Those in the party without Darkvision now have a light source that only they can see and it is unlikely that any Good followers would want to attack the party member

No, the brand doesn't shed light like the spell, it is simply always VISIBLE as a lit torch (to followers of the faith) would be regardless of the surroundings. Another way to describe it would be a kind of glowing aura that is given off by the brand but it doesn't actually illluminate anything around it at all.

I agree with themetricsystem, except I think it probably illuminates the persons face, but nothing beyond that (and really that's quite a minor point).

Also, note that Pathfinder 2e does not allow you to voluntarily fail saves unless explicitely specified (as in Litany of Self-Interest, for instance).
