When to add cards to the base set.

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

New player here I bought the base set of wrath of the righteous and all adventures + character deck. My question is when do you add the cards for adventure 1 and on. We did the first two scineros with the adventure deck 1 mixed in with the base cards in reference to "summon a random card" did we do this right? when I move on to later adventures should I pull the 1s out or leave them in and also mix in 2s 3s etc.

Welcome to the community and to my favorite game!

Page 17 of the rulebook tells you when to add the cards for each new adventure deck: when you complete an adventure. So you shouldn't have mixed in the deck 1 "The Worldwound Incursion" cards until you finished the base adventure "Into the Worldwound". Each time you complete an adventure you add all the cards for the next adventure and mix them with the cards already present. The Wrath of the Righteous adventure path card tells you when and how you start culling cards from the decks as you play.

Hope this helps and feel free to ask as many questions as you have! There are lots of friendly, helpful people on this forum!

Thanks Malcom. Just to summarize :

When you play a scenario from adventure level X (X being a number from 0 to 6) :

- You should only have cards in your decks and in the box of levels inferior or equal to X. So cards used to build the locations, the blessing deck, or cards you draw during the scenario can only be <=X.

- At some point (starting at level 3 or 4 if I remember well, see the Wrath of the Righteous adventure path card), you will start to remove low level cards from the box (i. e. from the rest of the advebture) at specific times when they are played. Removing banes will be mandatory (hence making the game more difficult). Removing boons will be your choice (you can get rid of a weak boons to increase chances to draw powerful one, but you may want to keep in the box some low levels boons of specific interest depending of your style of play).

The removal starts in adventure 3 (cards with Basic trait) and adventure 5 (cards with Elite trait). There is a good overview somewhere on this forum, when that happens.
Generally, it is always when you banish cards, including when you cast a spell that you are not proficient with, failing the check to acquire, defeating a bane and when the location is permanently (not temporarily!) closed and that's pretty much it. When you return cards you do not want to the box, they are not banished and thus, are not removed from the game.
And as Frencois said, you have to remove such banes, but you may remove boons. For example, if you really like Cure (Basic trait), you can keep it (which you definitely should).
