This has to do with the spell's ability to automatically confirm any critical hit against an evil foe. I was bummed to read that it doesn't apply "to any weapon that already has a magical effect related to critical hits, such as a keen weapon or a vorpal sword." It dashed my hopes of my Paladin wielding a keen scimitar and inflicting critical hits Willy nilly.
First question, is there a way around this? Second question, am I more likely to crit with a 15-threat range weapon that doesn't automatically confirm, or an 18-threat range weapon that does automatically confirm?

Improved Critical, the feat.
Training, the weapon enchantment. Key it to Improved Critical if you don't have feats to spare.Second question, am I more likely to crit with a 15-threat range weapon that doesn't automatically confirm, or an 18-threat range weapon that does automatically confirm?
If your chance to confirm is higher than 50%, then you're more likely to crit (threaten and confirm) with a 15-20 weapon than the 15% chance you have to automatically crit with a 18-20 weapon.
Considering that you're a paladin your accuracy should be pretty good, so 15-20 is gonna be better.
