Do half-orcs and half-elves begin play with the orc and elven languages, respectively? Or do they need to spend one of their language slots to get them?

The heritage paragraph for each makes no mention of language.

They need to spend a language pick.

They both get Common and 1 FREE language plus INT bonus languages.

I see it as the developers giving you the freedom to say your half-orc or half-elf was not raised in the orc or elf culture (or even ever met an orc or elf!) and might not know those languages, but if you want them to know their racial language, you can use the free language to do so.

Yeah, they don't get them free...but that's an advantage rather than disadvantage as, like all humans, they get any one free language they have access to of their choice, and both Elven and Orc are common and thus available if they desire them.

It's just the problem with original printing, having stated that they only get Common + INT languages. In errata it's Common + 1 free + INT.

The same amount as other races, and your character can select racial or cultural language etc, whatever fits her more.
