I've got a very small home group (three players) about to start Curse of the Crimson Throne, and they want a suitable GMPC to be a fourth party member.
The PCs are a ranger (melee focused), paladin (half-orc redeemer), and bard (buffer). What would be a good addition to this mix for a fourth?
Coincidentally, the iconics for CotCT included a ranger, paladin, and bard. Their fourth was a wizard, which is a decent enough choice for a GMPC, because it effectively lets you calibrate the difficulty of encounters from inside the party. Your party has two buffers and two meleers, so have some debuffs prepared for when the party is really having trouble, but otherwise focus on controlling the battlefield and hanging back away from the spotlight. Spare your spells when the party is having a too-easy time of things.
