Does Aura Sight let you determine the Aura type

I'm having this discussion with my group. I am reading this

This spell makes your eyes glow and allows you to see alignment auras within 120 feet of you. The effect is similar to that of a detect chaos/evil/good/law spell, but aura sight does not require concentration, and it discerns an aura's location and power more quickly.

You know the location and power of all chaotic, evil, good, and lawful auras within your sight. An aura's power depends on a creature's Hit Dice or an item's caster level, as noted in the description of the detect evil spell. If an item or a creature bearing an aura is in line of sight, you can attempt a Knowledge (religion) check to determine the aura's strength (one check per aura; DC 15 + spell level, or 15 + 1/2 caster level for a non-spell effect).

I read it as either of 2 things:
1: You can detect the different auras as types and can distinctly see chaotic, evil, good, and lawful auras as separate things or
2: That you can detect all of those auras and it's like seeing without colour ie you see the auras but you just detect auras are there. You see them all and they all look the same.

It says you can see them and know their strength but not whether you can discern the type or not.

If you can't distinguish between the types it would be a pretty garbage spell since all creatures have an alignment. At most it would let you recognize when something is true neutral. Even then, maybe they just have undetectable alignment up.

#1 is the only one that makes sense to me. Especially since aura strength can vary wildly depending on what class a creature is.

A 2nd level cleric's aura is the same strength as a 20th level fighter's.

#1 is the entire point of the spell.

#2 would be akin to a detect aligned spell and would be on par with the others as a 1st-level spell (and probably less useful unless you're playing some specific Extremely Neutral build.
