Signature Spell selection

Rules Discussion

The Exchange

I know that as a sorcerer you can make 1 spell of each spell level a signature spell. My question is whether I can take a heightened version of a spell and make it a signature spell for the heightened level.

For example - Dispel Magic is a 2nd level spell. I could make it my signature spell for 2nd level spells. If I take the heightened version (level 3), could I make that my 3rd level signature spell?

The reason could be if I want to make another 2nd level spell a signature spell (e.g. Calm Emotions) even if that is not optimal

Yes you can do that, I usually do that in my builds as well because Dispel Magic usually takes the 2nd lvl signature spell and I like Flaming Sphere...

Yes. A signature spell can be any spell in a spell slot of that level. And you can have a spell in your repertoire that's a heightened version of a weaker spell.

I have a level 2 Sorcerer of Undead bloodline. I plan on having Harm as my first level signature spell, and then Heal as my 2nd level signature spell. Because anyone who plays a spontaneous caster who uses either the Divine or Primal spell list and does not have Heal as a signature spell somewhere is a complete tool. IMO. Most valuable spell in the game and one that scales very well all the way to the top.
