Gunslinger + Gun Chemist Multiclass

Rules Questions

Hey!

I was hoping I can get some insight from the community. I am still learning a lot of the Pathfinder rules and I have come across a situation that I would love some clarification/guidance.

Starting a campaign and a player wants to make a lvl 1 Gunslinger and than multi class into Gun Chemist. Their expectations is that they would get the starting firearm for gunslinger (pistol) and then starting firearm for Gun Chemist (musket). My feeling is that they don't get another starting weapon because they got a similar starting weapon already and would have to purchase the second weapon.

They used the argument that if they multi classed into wizard that they would get a spell book as new equipment but isn't that comparing apples to oranges? I can't find a clear rule that I can use to navigate or guide my decision.

Thanks!

I would let them have the weapon. The weapon is somewhat included into the strength of a level 1 character.

However as a DM you are in our right to say okay, it isn't just going to appear into your gear, and you will have to [insert suitable roleplay encounter]

Since this is a rules question: Yes they get both guns.

I would just say that they've spent their downtime building a new weapon, and it's ready to use by the time they take their first oevel in the new class (so mechanically the weapon just appears, but the flavour is that they built it).
