The recent blog states that characters from Broken Lands "gain access" to Aldori dueling swords.

Is this the same concept as it is for the ancestral weapons? Since the dueling sword is an advanced weapon, it would be treated as a martial weapon for my character from the Broken Lands.

Would my character then be eligible to take the Aldori Duelist archetype?

Still very new to PF2.

No it is still an advanced weapon, you can just buy it. Uncommon options need something that gives you access.

To rephrase:

You still need a feat to give you proficiency in Aldori Dueling Swords. Being from the Broken Lands only allows you to purchase them.

At least for the Ancestral weapons there is the verbage that you gain access to all uncommon weapons with that ancestry in the name and that martial weapons become simple and advanced become martial.

I was believing it to be the same case here, that this advanced weapon would then be considered a martial weapon for those from the Broken Lands. People from other areas would have to take the additional weapon feat.

Is this not the case? Does being from the Broken Lands do nothing other than permitting purchase?

No. That is not the case.

You would need to take the appropriate feats, of which there are several, to allow you to be proficient in Aldori Dueling Swords.

Just like an elf needs to take Elven Weapon Familiarity Feat to achieve what you propose or a dwarf needs to take Dwarven Weapon Familiarity Feat to achieve what you propose. Nobody gets proficiency (or reduces the 'complexity' of a weapon) without taking a feat or class option. Granting Access, a game term, is only the ability to purchase.

I see. The ancestral ones are indeed feats and thus grant the extra benefits.

I guess I was under the impression that geographic origin was a feat, but it’s not.

I can work with that.
