One of my players is playing an Alchemist and we were thinking it would be fun if they could learn the formula from the potion itself, not just through finding a formula. This would give him access to more options, which I feel has little downside.
Can you help me with the rules for this? We're very new to Pathfinder 2e and are looking to make this challenging but doable.
DC Craft Alchemy check to learn the potion based on how potent the potion is-
DC 15 learn Lesser
DC 20 learn Moderate
DC 25 learn Greater
DC 30 learn Major
The following success table -
Crit Success - Learn the recipe and make a new one in the process
Success - Learn it
Failure - Don't learn it and you can't try again until next level
Crit Failure - Don't learn it and the potion is consumed (or explodes if a bomb)
This takes 6 hours of study and can't be combined with resting.
I got the DCs from the Game Mastery Section for the different levels of proficiency. Is there anything I'm missing with this?

You don't need house rules for this, the concept already exists in the core rules.
Look in the Core Rulebook pg. 293, under section about formulas. Look for reverse-engineer.
Alternately you could look at https://2e.aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?ID=250 if you don't have access to a core rulebook yourself.
