Discrepancy on Bracers of Armor

Rules Discussion

p. 554 "Bracers of armor give a +1 item bonus to AC with no Dex modifier cap..."

p. 607 "These stiff leather armguards grant you ... and a maximum Dexterity modifier of +5."

I checked the errata and I do not see any fix. I'd think the item description trumps the side bar text, but on the other hand, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me that armguards would interfere with a highly agile character in any way.

Does anyone know if there is an official ruling on this oversight/typo?

The Dex cap and the higher level versions of bracers of armor match the spell mage armor, even without that I would agree the description under the actual item is the correct one.

Basically, they decided they didn't want really high dexterity builds to outstrip other AC options, so there is a Dexterity Cap of +5 or less on all armor (physical or mystical) options.

If you have a 22+ Dexterity, the only way to get your full Dexterity bonus is to not get an actual armor bonus via physical armor, rune, spell, or Magic Bracer (which is usually not a good deal at any level where you could realistically get such a dexterity score).

Edit: Here's the story behind the discrepancy

Thanks all! Hopefully they put that in the errata.

Cheers and happy new year!
