Combat Grab

Rules Discussion

How does this feat work?

Can I FoM (trip and grab and say I fail on the grab) then second action use Combat grab to attack the enemy with my unarmed strike with No MAP and if it lands the enemy is grabbed?

No.

If your strike from Combat Grab hits, the enemy is grabbed, but nothing about either Combat Grab or Flurry of Maneuvers would cause MAP to not apply to that strike.

Since Combat Grab is also a Press maneuver it can actually never be used without MAP applying to it.

Quote:
Press: Actions with this trait allow you to follow up earlier attacks. An action with the press trait can be used only if you are currently affected by a multiple attack penalty. Some actions with the press trait also grant an effect on a failure. The effects that are added on a failure don’t apply on a critical failure. If your press action succeeds, you can choose to apply the failure effect instead. (For example, you may wish to do this when an attack deals no damage due to resistance.) Because a press action requires a multiple attack penalty, you can’t use one when it’s not your turn, even if you use the Ready activity.

Ohh, what makes this move good then? Just the fact that you can strike the enemy and get a free grab on top of it?

You're doing two things for a single action (attack and grab).

Only one roll is relevant (the strike), so if you had a bonus to a single roll, like guidance or aid, it would be benefitting you on both effects.

Because only the attack roll is needed, your weapon proficiency would continue to improve your odds even if you aren't progressing in Athletics.

Gotcha, just that MAP though is a killer. Enough for me to pass on this solid feat. Thanks Hammer.
