Access to uncommon weapons outside of Unconventional Weaponry?

Rules Discussion

Is there a way to get access to uncommon weapons (like a katana) at 1st level that do not have an associated Trait like Monk, Dwarf, etc, without using Unconventional Weaponry?

Is there a way to get access to weapons that do have a Trait like Monk, Gnome, etc. without UW at 1st level? and without directly having the trait?

Thanks.

That depends a lot on what you mean by "a way."

Feats that a character can take largely come down to ancestry feats (uncommon weaponry, the various ancestry feats that give access to the weapons of that ancestry), or class feats (monastic weaponry). If your heritage has you starting with a general feat, you might have an ancestry trait from a different ancestry.

In a specific game, specific uncommon weapons may also become common, or available to a specific character, for story reasons. "We're in Tian Xia, and some normally uncommon weapons are common, and vice versa." Or "I will allow this character who came from a place where the weapon is common, can I start with one?" These are things you can ask your GM about, though, not things you can assume.

What build choices can grant access to a 1st level character for using a katana outside of unconventional weaponry?

A katana just says "uncommon" but doesn't seem to identify any specific Trait/Region. Is there a region in Core that grants access to things like Katana, Sai, etc? I would expect this to be Tian, but I'm not finding a cross reference.

None of that mechanical definition "X is common in region Y" exists in the rulebooks. Outside of the feats, access conditions are outside of the realm of build choices.

Yeah, as written it's easier for someone from Cheliax to learn how to use and purchase a katana than it would be for a Tian native.

And hell, for classes without innate MWP it's easier for that Chelaxian to learn how to use said Katana than it would be for them to wield a longsword or bastard sword.

Weird, but that's what Paizo wants I guess.
