So, you pick 4 1st level formulas when you take this feat, but is there a way to continue adding higher level formulas to your formula book so you can create higher level items?

Unless you have a class feature like the Alchemist that adds formulas to your book at each level, you have to purchase or otherwise obtain formulas out in the wild.
If you take the Inventor Feat you can also "craft" unknown common formula's using the crafting rules.
You can also reverse engineer items as described in the "Formulas" section on page 293 of the CRB.
