I come to the forum seeking answers because something is not clicking in my brain on this topic.
I understand the different grades. They are used for lower and higher level items. In looking at the various statblocks on precious materials (CRB 578) I was finally able to suss out what they meant in referring to thin items and whatnot. Awkward wording in my opinion.
I see different materials having different costs based on the grade/level if the item. But, how do those prices mix with the chunks/ingots above that?
I can't figure this out. If someone could explain this to me I would be grateful. Take me step by step.

Acquire the necessary formula and artisans tools for the job.
Find the final price of the item as though you were buying it whole.
Begin your 4 days of prep work, and pay half of that whole price. Succeed at your Crafting check and pay the other half, or spend X number of days continuing to Craft, reducing the amount you pay for the second half by Y.

I appreciate the reply, but that is not what I'm having trouble understanding. I have a good feel for how regular crafting works. I'm stuck on how everything in the special materials adds up. To me there are things not explained. Chunks? Ingots? etc.

'Chunks' and 'Ingots' are just the forms you are most likely to acquire precious materials in: 'Chunks' are fairly small pieces, while 'ingots' are the traditional 'Gold Bar' that you'll see in the movies (just not necessarily made of gold in this case).
