I've been tinkering around with the idea of making a 'blind swordsman' type character in starfinder, using Vlaka for the race. Classwise I'm trying to decide between Solarian (can take advantage of race stats better) or Soldier (Probably easier to build). Would one work particularly better than the other, and are there any options I should consider going for?

Mechanics wise, you basically need to ask yourself this:
Do I want more feats, some sad bonuses in the form of gear boosts, and easy access to power armor? If no to the power armor (and as such, the Armor Storm and Guard fighting styles,) then how do... I guess Blitz or maybe Hit And Run with low range ranged combat sound?
-or-
Do I want more combat enhancing abilities baked into my class, with either interesting or cookie cutter choices in the form of Revelations (depending on your point of view.)
As far as playability goes, depending on your table and the players and GM at it, you should be prepared to answer why your character doesn't get some sweet, cheap robot eyes for some sort of vision. You'll also want to be prepared to get shot, a lot, by things you can't perceive.
Oh, on the getting shot bit, a big part of the standard Solarian thing I see is using a move action to position yourself, then a standard action Stellar Rush to engage something in melee. You can probably still use this tactic as a blind character, but you'll probably need to really think about and plan around proper positioning.
