Hi everyone:
I have a doubt. When you confirm a critical hit with a flaming burst weapon (or any other weapon with special qualities when you hit with a critical) you get an extra d10 of damage. What happens if you have a fortification armor and negates the critical? the burst ability will be activated? An eldritch knight could use his class ability to cast a free spell?

So my interpretation is as follows:
A creature may not be subject to critical hits. Some weapon qualities have an extra effect on a critical hit. In this case, the critical hit happens, but the creature is not subject to the extra damage from the weapons regular damage.
However, fortification specifically negates the critical hit. As in the critical hit is no longer a critical hit, just a normal hit. It's not the same thing as a creature not being subject to critical hits, since the enchantment makes the critical hit not happen at all.
Since the critical part is negated, the attack would be treated in all respects as a normal attack. It's as though the confirmation roll failed to confirm.

From my experience, burst weapons aren't worth the money anyway, so there is no reason to negate that extra circumstantial d10 on fortification. The real damage comes from doubling all the static modifiers anyway, so turning a crit into a normal damage hit still makes fortification worth it (in my opinion). I'd default to Pirate's interpretation.
