Homebrew Shield

Homebrew and House Rules

Minor Age of Ashes spoilers, not sure how to tag.

One of my players decided to remove some of the shell off of one of the Graveshells in Citadel Alterein and is looking to refine it into a shield.

The base statistics on it are hardness 6, HP 10, BT 5 but he wants to find a way to reinforce it to bump its hardness to 7 (he's fine with the HP and BT).

Not sure of the best way mechanically to go about doing so (ie cost, crafting time, materials, etc.) He would need to find someone in Breachhill to do it for him most likely. He's currently level 3.

Looking for suggestions as the GM on what makes sense. Thanks in advance.

It was formerly a Hellknight citadel.

Hellknights (as far as I know) admire Devils because they see them as the apex of Lawfulness.
Devils (and other lawful creatures) hate Demons, who are the apex of Chaos.
Demons are vulnerable to Cold Iron.
Say that it was not obvious at first glance, but it is actually a standard-grade Cold Iron shield.
Standard-grade Cold Iron has Hardness 7, HP 28, BT 14

There are no shield runes... (Well I have created my own)

Consider that idea, then you too can spend more time than you should have, doing all the maths, making sure you didn't unleash 5E's Sharpshooter into your game.

It's the carcass of a monster so I'm not sure that fits best, however the stats are similar enough I can probably work out a cost to craft it from there.

Thanks for the suggestion.

He's using it as a weapon, with a boss, which I believe can get weapon runes however.

Yup, tho mechanically, the weapon side of a shield and the shield side of the shield are two different things.

I have been tempted to change the boss into a D4 with Shove.
