Any thoughts on a Claymore build?

The title. After rereading a couple volumes of the manga. I was thinking it would be fun to play a character like that in PF2. Any thoughts on a build?

Amusingly, I'd been pondering this idea myself. However, I took it a slightly different direction, and decided that I'd rather homebrew stuff for it. Personally, I'm thinking of making Claymores a type of archetype, with various abilities being additional feats in the archetype, which allows you to come at it from various classes.

That said, it doesn't really answer your question. Personally, though, if I was trying to build one in the core rules, I'd actually go somewhat with the Amiri build. Giant instinct barbarian, bastard sword, and Rage to approximate releasing their aura... I think it'd work reasonably well.

I remember a bit about that manga.

I would maybe go with fury instinct barbarian and focus on feats that accentuate your athleticism while using medium armor and focusing on Strength, con, and dex (in that order). Maybe build 1/2 elf human? You can pick up raging throw, sudden charge, and no escape all by level 3; fury gives you an extra class feat, your level 1 racial feat can be nimble elf (for speed) and your level 3 general feat can be fleet (for even more speed). Building an elf--especially cavern elf--is also an option but you won't be as tough then and you will be saddled with a mostly superfluous 12 int. You do end up even faster though!

For your level 4 feat, you can choose between fast movement and raging athlete (for them leaps). At 6, you can either pick up attack of opportunity (and retrain no escape to something else; if you change the build to take elf atavism/dark vision, you can get acute scent for instance) or you can get the mobility feat that you passed up at level 4. At level 8, you can pick up sudden leap (especially if you took raging athlete at level 4) or you can opt for renewed vigor to double down on being a real tough gal.

Your skill feats should probably go towards improving your athletics and acrobatics skills. If you are taking lots of jumping stuff, quick leap is great as are a lot of the various jumping feats and cat fall (when you absolutely must jump off a roof to assail your foe).

I think someone made a mistake when they moved this thread to conversions rather than advice.

I'm thinking a elf build is probably the most likely for me. Maybe a point or two to wisdom for those insane perception rolls they pull off every now and then?

Yeah, your 4 "free" boosts are probably going to be Str, Con, Dex, and Wis at levels 1/5/10/15/20

To talk exact stat choices at lv. 1:
Class bonus mod: +2 Str
Race mods: +2 Str, +2 Dex, +2 Int, -2 Con
Background mods: +2 Str. +2 Con
"Free mods": +2 Str, +2 Con, +2 Dex, +2 Wis

That nets to:
Str 18
Dex 14
Con 12
Int 12
Wis 12
Cha 10

Also, what backgrounds do you think would fit the most for this character?

Also, what backgrounds do you...

I would go with martial disciple for cat fall or quick jump. That also maybe fits the Claymore's somewhat esoteric martial training

Thank you for your time. I'm really excited to play this character.

To me you should go by steps.

First, are you going to be an offensive or defensive kind of claymore?

If offensive you can choose between

- Fighter > Higher attack precision and more critical hits.

- Barbarian > Higher flat dmg. Rely on rage, which can be see as semi awakening Powers.

If defensive you can go with

- Champion > Higher armor class and Lay on hand ability, which could be seen as their synchro healing power. Also the tennets of good are quite similar to claymore code, so they could stick easily.

Once you are set, time to decide your dedications.

As a fighter, you could go with barbarian, because of rage trait.

As for barbarian, you definitely would go for fighter, because of power attack feat.

As for champion, consider go for barbarian because of the rage, and eventually fighter for attack power. Decide your order yourself.

As for the armor, remember you have to wear medium armor because of the rage requirements.

As for the weapons, bastard sword is what you are looking for.

It can be wield 1 or 2 hands, and it deal good dmg.

Eventually talk with your DM to use a sword with Pick traits.

Currently the Pick is the only good weapon in terms of dmg because of the weapon specialization and fatal trait. So you will see every adventurer using a Pick, regardless the class.

To avoid that I suggest as said to use a homerule to simply shape the pick with a sword form.

Guess you are set now.
