Targeted Ranged Touch vs Ray. Are there any advantages?

Rules Questions

Touch attacks are divided into two groups, "Melee" and "Ranged". The "Ranged" are further divided into "Target" effects, and "Ray" effects. It seems that the difference between these is that a "Ray" can be used on an unseen target, and benefit from feats such as weapon focus, point blank shot, precise shot, and point blank master. Are there any mechanical advantages to the targeted ranged touch effects, or are they just a sad substitute for a Ray?

There have been certain defenses that only work on ray attacks, so being a ray has its disadvantages too.

Thanks Meirril. I had forgotten about the various Ray-Ban effects. I think they come up so infrequently in our games that I did not think to consider them as a balancing issue.

I am still unsure if the handful of items and abilities that specifically work against "Ray"s would balance out all the bonuses that a "Ray" user could receive from feats, but it is worth considering.

Again, thank you.
