Shields and shifting rune

Rules Discussion

Spiked gloves can be morphed into weapons because they are on the weapons list, but what about shields, which only appear if "modded" ( or to mention shield bash )?

You could turn your gloves into a shield spike but not a shield itself.

Yeah I know.

My question was ( it was misleading indeed the way I asked ) if i could put a shifting rune on a shield.

You cannot put runes on shields. There are talismans that can be put on shields though.

What about champion's divine ally?

Also I find hard to understand why a spiked glove is considered a weapon but not a spiked shield ( where the spikes only enhance the damage the glove/shield already has ).

Finally, in the pathfinder android app it is possible to enhance with runes a shield ( the shield attack, or add on, is on the weapon list and is eligible for both runes and mods.

Shortly, seems that you can't have runes/mods in terms of defense ( in fact, in the "defense" sheet you don't have any chance of customization ), but if you treat the shield as a weapon, you can benefit from all weapon traits, as the shield is a weapon like a sword or a mace.

I could certainly see an argument for treating a shield as a weapon.

Also, looking at it again, it seems the rule I was referencing earlier is in regards to specific magical shields.

All magic shields are specific items with a wide variety of protective effects, as described in their entries. Unlike magic armor, magic shields can’t be etched with runes.

So unless I missed another rule somewhere, you might be able to etch runes into them as if they were weapons after all.

I think we should read it as "shield compared to armor"

It would be something like, i guess:

"shields, unlike armors. can't be enhanced with armor runes/mods"

"magic shields, unlike magic armors, are items with specific protective effects, and can't be enhanced with armor/runes".

CRB page 277, Shields, Attacking With A Shield wrote:

A shield can be used as a martial weapon for attacks, using the statistics listed for a shield bash on Table 6–7: Melee Weapons (page 280). The shield bash is an option only for shields that weren’t designed to be used as weapons. A shield can’t have runes added to it. You can also buy and attach a shield boss or shield spikes to a shield to make it a more practical weapon. These can be found on Table 6–7. These work like other weapons and can even be etched with runes.
