Magic Fang on Animals

Rules Discussion

Magic fang states:
"The unarmed attack becomes a +1 striking unarmed attack, gaining a +1 item bonus to attack rolls and increasing the number of damage dice to two."

Most animals already have a 2 die attack
Ape: fist Damage 2d6
Bear: jaws Damage 2d8

The spell 'Animal form' grants the same above attack damage.

So magic fang does nothing to these attacks beyond adding +1 to hit?

So would a "Bonded Animal" (Skill Feat) be better than a 'Animal Companion' for combat?

Magic Fang looks like it only boosts weaker animals.
Much the way Magic Weapon only boosts weaker weapons.
Both only work for a limited time frame.
One other bonus would be that it makes their weapon magical, though that seems less a factor in PF2.

That said, your Monk & Animal Instinct Barbarian would much appreciate receiving the buff. An extra die for a minute can be a lot of damage from a 1st level spell.

And an Animal Companion not needing a buff that the Bonded Animal would like isn't a strike against an Animal Companion.
Bonded Animal is better because it's a cheaper investment.
Animal Companion is better w/ said investment.
Neither are necessarily worth buffing any more. :(
