Lower Level Heightened Spells

Silver Crusade

If a PC memorized a Heightened Spell, do they need to keep the lower level spell on their spell list to cast it at the lower level?

For example, if a sorcerer memorized Magic Missile as a 3rd level spell, can they trade out their 1st level version of it, or do they need to keep it if they wish to cast it as a first level spell?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The have to keep it at any level they want to cast it at.
Unless they choose it as a Signature Spell.

The book gives the example of a caster with Fireball at 3rd and 5th who can't cast it at 4th (despite 4th being a heightening option too).

That's a drawback for Spontaneous casters, so Wizards don't have this drawback and only need one copy in their spellbook.

No undercasting or overcasting except Signature Spell. If you know Magic Missle 3 it can only be level 3 unless you can use Spontaneous Heightening.
