I'm working on a character who will focus on shield use, Fighter base class. One thing I wanted to test with the fighter is, well, every weapon, and since the shield build would keep the same shield, idea was that I put runes on my shield and copy them over to the weapon. Is that a viable strategy? Can we rune up the boss or shield spikes?
A shield can’t have runes added to it. You can also buy and attach a shield boss or shield spikes to a shield to make it a more practical weapon. These can be found on Table 6–7. These work like other weapons and can even be etched with runes.
You can put runes on your shield boss or shield spikes, which function just like a weapon.
Shields without a boss or spikes cannot have runes.
You could put runes on your weapon and copy them to your shield with doubling rings or vice versa.

Idea is to put the runes on boss/spikes and since my shield will always will be with me, I can use whatever weapon on a whim!

The Fighter's advantage is with higher proficiency in one weapon group.
Otherwise other martials have superior tricks.
I'd recommend a Champion.

Will look into champion. Not sure how well I can play the faith based character type though. I don't mind taking an accuracy hit for the aesthetic, perhaps changing weapon based on enemy type, especially if I have access to Shifting (does it work on a shield if the property rune is on the shield boss/spikes?).
