Deific Weapon does nothing for me?

my Deity likes a longsword which is common martial, so the buff to gain access to their uncommon weapon or dmg buff to simple weapon does nothing for me.

'zealously bear your deity's favored weapon' - so does that mean I can add zeal domain (in addition to existing domain) and get that extra d8 from the Weapon Surge focus spell in return for using the deity's weapon? Or does it mean if I take zeal it must be used with a longsword?

I think I am just stretching just to get something out of my god...

Deific Weapon is there to keep Clerics/Champions of deities with Simple Weapons from being punished for using those weapons instead of martial weapons, not to give those of deities with martial favored weapons something better than a martial weapon. Martial weapons are pretty fine as they are.

OK so I decided no need to stick with longsword just to please my god if no buffs I will get creative.

took unconventional weaponry, gives access to the orc necksplitter so gives me +2/+4 dmg to latter multiattacks when I am using zeal Weapon Surge because it adds a dmg die and forceful buffs dmg per dmg die.

I think it is fitting for the Lost and Alone background in Plaguestone, a paladin who use to fight orcs, in his escape from Lastwall he lost his longsword and grabbed a dead orcs axe and wielded it with forceful zeal

Hopefully he’s not a paladin of Iomedae.

Actually he is, are you considering the orc weapon dishonorable or something I missed? He gives his enemy orc an honorable death with their own blade - classic Morrowind encounter.

If he chooses any weapon other than a longsword then he's not zealously bearing his deity's favoured weapon.

Well, 2 things. Warpriest does not get longsword naturally. And when you get martial weapons, you never get past trained. Unless your a follower of imodea. So you are getting a bonus. Also, some abilities like replenishment of war require your deities favored weapon to function. Otherwise, if you do not wish any of that or can get something similar you prefer, Have fun with it.

As to this, there is no mechanic or flavor that requires you to use your gods weapon. Though, I would highly recommend he carry one the gods don't require you to use their weapon. Otherwise, why would they give you access to simple, and martial weapons.

An uncommon weapon will just get the proficiency level according to whether it is simple or martial, in case that's not clear.

The verb "bear" is defined by Merriam Webster as "carry" and does not include "use" or "wield." If one carries a weapon (or even a symbolic representation on a necklace say) fervently and often, that is "zealously bearing" the item. If Pathfinder wanted to have the champion use the favored weapon to the near exclusion of others, it would probably have used the phrase "zealously wield" or "zealously use."

Keep in mind that you can't actually use Unconventional Weaponry to get an Orc Necksplitter until level 3, since it's an advanced weapon and you don't get training in all martial weapons until then. And you won't be able to get expert proficiency in it until level 13 when you take Unconventional Expertise, while Warpriests get expert in their deity's favored weapon at level 7.

He's a champion. they get training in all martial weapons at first level.

My bad, I thought I read Warpriest somewhere.
