If you are done reporting for an event, you need to go into the event itself to mark it as being completed. Do the same for the unwanted event number. Or save it for later.
But if you are creating an event to report just one game, please don't. The numbers are already up to 7 digits. Keep the event around to report other games you run.

This is what I'm asking about. Where, exactly? There used to be a "This game is completed" button in previous games I've run. I can't find it now.

Ok, next to the event name is an Edit button. If you don't see one than you must not have created the event and are only reporting on it. Click the Edit Button.
This takes you to the where the event is setup. There will be another Edit Button. Click it.
You will then see an a check box titled "Reporting is complete for this event.". You will likely have to scroll down a little. Check that, click Save Changes.
The event will now be closed.
If you don't see check box, then the event is step up differently.
Keep in mind that only the person who created the event mark as completed.
