Stealth in Exploration mode

Rules Discussion

Silver Crusade

I'm trying to figure out how viable scouting ahead of the party is in PF2

But the answer depends a LOT on how stealth in exploration mode works.

Let us say my character has a stealth of +10 and is NOT carrying light.

Does
1) The PC roll stealth, the GM then compares that against the various bad guys Perception DC (10+their mod)
2) Does the PC roll stealth, and EVERY NPC rolls perception against that result
3) Does the PC roll stealth against a "area DC" set from the difficulty chart

Something else entirely that I'm missing?

It depends on what the GM decides. Exploration mode is usually the player declaring what he or she wants to do, then the GM making a judgment call on which activity is appropriate and of course, setting the DC.

The Scout exploration mode activity technically doesn't even require stealth. You just move at half-speed and end up giving your party a bonus when the enemy is spotted.

Now if you are trying to avoid notice, stealth rolls are involved vs Perception DC.

But those are just common exploration activity and doesn't encompass all the possibilities. I'm sure if you talk to your GM and want to do a combination of Avoid Notice and Scouting, there shouldn't be an issue.

2) isn't a thing in PF2. Opposed rolls should not be used. You always roll against a DC or set a DC for others.

1) and 3) are pretty similar. A camp full of gnolls has the "area DC" of the gnolls Perception DC.

The enemy only rolls when they are actively seeking. And then against your Stealth DC.
