Back in the 70s we sometimes did DM-less games, and even solo games.
The trick was to use a random dungeon generator chart, with random monsters and loot, all from subsidiary tables.
No story. No roleplay. Just a slugfest. But hey, we were RPG-obsessed teenagers with all too much time on our hands.
Here's one for generating paper dungeons, but there's no fog of war.

IIRC we had random tables from The Strategic Review, so we could generate the next room on the fly.
It's OK for testing combat abilities, but I think you would get bored fast.
