Issues with magic fang

Currently Magic Fang can not be used on yourself as its target 1 willing ally and page 456 clarifies that you are not your own ally. It also can not target animal companions as Animal companions can only benefit from item bonuses to speed and AC (page 214).

Is Magic Fang useless if you do not have a second natural weapon using person in your party?

An animal companion doesn't gain the item bonus to attack. Does that extend to also not benefitting from the extra damage die?

Maybe it does. Apparently striking isn't an item bonus. It also doesn't increase the weapon dice anymore, just setting it to a number of dice. So it only effects young companions at all.

Complaint withdrawn, the issue is Magic fang and Magic Weapon are pretty useless.

At level 1, they both seem pretty useful to me. At level 10, I don't expect to use them.

As a Wizard at level 1, and I expect up to about level 4, I keep Magic Weapon memorized daily and usually use my Drain to cast it again. It is hands down the highest damage potential of any 1st level spell on the list.
