Hello everyone!
About five years ago, I was in a campaign that was set in the drow metropolis of Zirnakaynin, where the PCs were gladiators destined to become embroiled in drow intrigues and politicking in between combats. It took several cues from the Spartacus: Blood and Sand TV series, and I felt that it was a cool idea for a campaign. Unfortunately, it didn’t last very long (real life got in the way and all that).
So, I decided after a while that I’d love to give it another shot, and I wondered if anyone else on the boards would be up for it too.

Whoo, lots of questions here!
With it having a basis in gladiator combat, would you allow things that spice up martial characters more, like Path of War or the Spheres system?
I'm not familiar with either Path of War or Spheres, so I don't think I'm going to allow them.
Additional question: how bad of an idea is a straight spellcaster character for this? I’m guessing we should all be thinking of more martial classes, or at least classes with some durability?
A straight spellcaster may have a more difficult time of it, but I do have a couple of campaign traits that would suit casters.
Sounds interesting. Would these gladiators be native to the Underdark and other subterranean races, or would they be surface races captured about brought to Zirnakaynin?
They'd be a mix of Darklands races and surfacer slaves.
1) Will you be using the gladiator rules from Ultimate Combat?
If you mean Performance Combat, gorram right I am. :)
2) How important is a working knowledge of Spartacus: Blood and Sand? (I've never watched it.)
You won't need any. Generally, my vision of the drow for this campaign will take cues from the Ancient Romans.
However, fair warning--I am planning to have this campaign be a bit more Mature-rated than the fare I normally do. Hopefully everyone's okay with that.
I'll open up a proper recruitment thread in a bit, then!
