Deities / Demigods and Domains

Pathfinder Second Edition General Discussion

In 1E the Deities granted 5 domains and the Demigods granted 4 domains. This was a way to show the level of divine power between the divinites.
However in 2E both Deities and Demigods grant access to 4 domains now.

Any thoughts and theories on what the difference between the two divine groups with be and how that will reflected in game?

It'll only be reflected in whether they might every be statted up (demigods) or definitely won't (gods).

I suppose that is one way to look at it.

I haven't seen any demigods domains in PF2 yet so I don't know where that info comes from

but about the 4 domains for deities - well, there arent alignment domains anymore, which clears up up to two (say that 3 times fast) domain slots, so at least the dual alignment deities make an effective plus of one

Also they seem to be able to make more of an impact then in PF1

Ooh I didn't know alignment ones were gone. I was never a fan anyway
I wonder why they were removed though...

The Bestiary shows Treerazer grants the destruction, nature, nightmare and tyranny domains.

In 2nd edition, we've done away with that deity vs. demigod domain difference due to the change in how domains are organized and function.

There's never been a mechanical difference for a cleric between the two.

The only in-game difference remains that deities don't get stat blocks but demigods could.

Thank you O Great Tyrannosaurian Overlord!!!!

I really wanted to get an explanation on that since there was a section on this in the Planar Adventures.

Good news for folks who've been reading along during 1st edition is that, with the exception of Nocticula, the info on demigods/deities is still accurate as to who is what.

I love loved Nocticula's story.
She was my favorite Demon Lord and now my favorite Goddess.

So I really love your work on her story.

Awww, thank you! It's always nice to hear kind words like this... so often the internet/real world is more interested in complaining, it's great to hear compliments! :)

She's a full goddess now? I mean, it is not surprising but I didn't get the note that she made the jump

Always, I love all things Pathfinder.

And also I enjoy reading the stuff that you made in your homebrew world that you put into pathfinder. Like Treerazer and Nocticula.

It always inspires me when building my own world and adventures.

In 2E terms, I'm a Bard and you my Muse.

The "note" appeared in Return of the Runelords, is mentioned again in the last volume of Tyrant's Grasp, and will be the norm going forward from there.

Thats cool. She is certainly my favorite demon lady :P (Lamashtu is icky...)

I also like treerazer, didn't know that you were the creator, so thank you in that regard

Btw did Nocticula kick anyone out of the core deities?

I understand that the core deities remain the same, The Redeemer Queen is joining those ranks of full deity but not core20 like Besmara

Nope. The core 20 remain the same. Nocticula is in the same category of "other deities," along with Brigh, Zyphus, Milani, Ghlaunder, Dahak, etc.

EDIT: And Besmara, as mentioned directly above.

I just wanted to pile on the love-fest for this change.

It happens in our Wrath game, one of our PCs become... entangled with Nocticula and it didn't work out long-term. That PC shifted alignment and became Evil, ceasing to worship Abadar. Now... I've got this opportunity to fill in the blanks as to who has taken over her portfolio, and the (failed) relationship also gets to bolster her alignment change.

Basically, it's a setting change that ties into story really nicely.

So thanks. The player is quite looking forward to dealing with his old PC as the current campaign capstone.

You were my favorite guest at Pathfinder Fridays (Which I used to call Pathfinder Spoiler Friday whenever you were the guest XD). The setting/flavor is what made me a Pathfinder player, and you have an unique way to share your knowledge of it with us all, so I really appreciated all the screentime you had. It was fun and inspiring at the same time.

So I'm looking forward for tomorrow! I'm surely going to watch this one.

Nocticula was my favorite demonlord to, and is among my favorite gods. It was really interesting to actually follow all her path to redemption and I'm looking forward to finally reading your two pages about her in the last 1E AP volume.

I'm obviously eagerly waiting for WG3 Gods and Magic so I can see more about the gods in second edition's take.
