There are currently three signs on the door of the hotel. The first says "You must be wearing a mask or other face covering to enter." The second says "This door is locked. Either use your room key to enter, or use the phone to contact the front desk." And the third says "No vacancy. Try next door." In the last 30 minutes, I have had 3 people knock on the door, none of them wearing masks, wanting to rent a room. And these are not small signs. Each one is a full sheet of paper. I am growing annoyed.

I blame the manager. He keeps dumping our rates so low, that we're getting people who usually stay at places like the Red Roof or Super 8. Today, for instance, when I left our rate was $80, which is already like $40 less than what we were charging before the COVID. When I came in, it had been dropped to $65. Then, take into account that most of the people who are here booked through Expedia, or Priceline, or something like that, and we're getting like $55 for most of the rooms tonight. If we could get our own manager back, instead of having the one from next door "handle" us, maybe things would be better. Or if we could get our own housekeepers instead of having to borrow them from next door too. Although, I did hear that we might be getting one or two housekeepers back soon.

I just don't think he cares. We're not "his" hotel, but he's probably getting pressure from above to increase our occupancy, so he just dumps the rate and we get a bunch of one star people.

Ouch that video triggered my hotel PTSD
The manager when I started here in no uncertain terms told me that I should avoid giving rooms to "one star people". We don't owe anyone a room and I can tell them to leave if they are rude. I miss that manager. Although I will still kick someone out for being overly rude. The policy worked to we were award winning back then. we had a 4 year streak with lighthouses awards then that manager quit along with half of the staff and it's been downhill ever since.

And we're only "sold out" because, due to not having our own housekeeping staff, we only had 26 clean rooms tonight.
Yeah that was us for about 3 months. we only got about half our rooms clean a day. I don't know how they are doing any better now TBH. but that is a day shift problem.

If someone walks in to book a room, I and the other clerks have been known to make an excuse as to why they couldn't have one. "They're painting rooms" has always been a favorite of mine. But when they book them on those 3rd party sites, they'res not much we can do other than throw them out if they get too bad. And, to be fair, most of the guests aren't that bad. It's mainly been an increase in the number of people smoking in the rooms, as well as just being rude and/or snarky to us.

True 3rd party sites always bite me in the rear.
I don't in general get people being to rude to me other then the occasional crazy house wife or overly privileged platinum ultra super special member. Our poor second shift lady has to deal with the real A-holes.
I don't even have to do the trick I used to do at Walmart to keep people from harassing me. (Looming is a skill yo)
I usually have a talk with all of our front desk employees at some point explaining to them that we are not required to give someone a room and if you know they are gonna be a problem don't even bother.
Hmmm also we charge 250 dollars to the persons account if they were smoking in the room so I say let em if they feel they have to.

We try to charge them $250 for smoking in the room, too. But, a lot of them will go and get a prepaid Visa card from the gas station with just enough money on it to authorize at check-in. Then when we go to charge them, we can get like $20-$30. Or, they'll call their credit card company and dispute the charge, demanding that we are lying to them. Then the manager has to try and prove to the credit card company that the people did smoke in the room, which is hard to do.

Deck:
Alchemize+
Corpse Explosion
Backstab+
Blur+
Catalyst+
Footwork+
Deadly Poison+ x2
Defend+ x4
Neutralize
Survivor+
Ascender's Bane
Relics:
Ring of the Snake
Art of War (+1 energy if you didn't attack last turn)
Happy Flower (+1 energy every 3 turns)
Singing Bowl (+2 max hp instead of card)
Astrolabe (transmute and upgrade 3 cards) (this is how I got the Alchemize+ and Backstab+)
Horn Cleat (14 block on 2nd turn)
Twisted Funnel (4 poison to all enemies on turn 1)
Prayer Wheel (normal enemies drop extra card)
Busted Crown (+1 energy per turn, two fewer card choices)
Gambling Chip (start of turn 1, discard and draw any number of cards)
Lantern (+1 energy on turn 1)
Orichalcum (6 block if end turn with 0 block)
Meal Ticket (heal 15 hp when enter shop)
The Singing Bowl / Prayer Wheel combo was nice. Could add 4 to max hp after each fight if I didn't like the cards. Orichalcum was useless, and I didn't enter a shop after getting the Meal Ticket.

Yep. Defense as much as possible, even if it means not adding poison that turn. Then the Catalyst at an opportune moment. For instance, with the time snail, I got it up to around 60 poison, hit it with the Catalyst to take it to 180, then just had to survive one big hit (~55 damage) and let the poison kill it. I like that build, but would have preferred a Noxious Fumes or two in there as well. Or an extra Catalyst.
| gran rey de los mono |
I think my favorite with the catalyst was useing it with that one rogue rare that give you 3 of the same card the next turn. it how I did the full 999 damage to the one mini boss.
I've never managed to get that. Usually I don't even bother taking that card if I see it. I have managed to use Burst (next skill is played twice) on Catalyst before, but not often.

Yeah I would say the good ones are adrenaline corpse explosion after image and alchemize are all good then envenom thousand cuts and die die die are ok.
Tools of the trade can be ok depending on the deck. rest are meh or worse. Although I will say I have wanted to make a deck around Grande finale but I can never get it to work out.

I actually got a Grand Finale+ from the Astrolabe, too. Even managed to play it twice. But it is so hard to get to play it, so I got rid of it.

Great night at work so far. Walked in the door, smelled strong cigarettes and light weed. Air freshener helped mask it, but I think they've finally gone to bed as the smell is starting to dissipate. Noticed that the guest in one of the rooms that might be smoking is on the Do Not Rent list because he smoked in his room last week, but 2nd shift went ahead and checked him in as a walk-in. And I know he dealt with the guest last time, because he said he had gone to the guy's room to bring an extra pillow, and the guy answered the door holding a lit cigarette. Have spent the last 3 hours doing laundry, not even having a chance to sit down until now. But I'm almost done. The last of the sheets (about a half load) are in the dryer, and the rags (the last thing to do) are in the washer. Everything else is folded. Just have to wait for the sheets to finish, fold them, and then put them in housekeeping. My one check-in I had tonight showed up at 1:30. A man in his mid 60s to early 70s, no mask. I charaded that he needed a mask, and he went back to his car to get it. Then, he isn't wearing it right. It's not covering his nose. I figured "F++* it. If he gets sick he deserves it."
And now I'm tired.
| gran rey de los mono |
Thanks. Tonight is a lot better. I wasn't assaulted by cigarette or weed smoke as I walked in the door. There is practically no laundry, I folded what was ready in about 30 minutes of slow, easy work, and the little bit that is left will be ready to throw in the dryer in a few minutes. Should take no more than 5 minutes to fold once it's done. I might do the rags, too, but those are super simple. Just wash and dry, no need to fold.

My Pathfinder game" The legacy of Kain part of my game has been doing surprisingly well so far. I had a little moment where they got to see some consequences of their actions before they actually took the actions. so I am getting the time travel down. still tentative in some ways. They got a little off track as they really want mobieus staff but failed to take it so it shouldn't mess me up.
