Spell Focus and Alchemist

Rules Questions

Hello friends,

I am building my Preservationist Alchemist and I would like to take Augment Summoning for my Summons. But I would have to take Spell Focus (Conjuration) first, but I am not sure if I can.

From Spell Focus description:
Choose a school of magic. Any spells you cast of that school are more difficult to resist.

From Alchemist description:
Although the alchemist doesn’t actually cast spells, he does have a formulae list that determines what extracts he can create...

From FAQ:
Is an alchemist a spellcaster for the purpose of crafting magic items other than potions?
As written, no, alchemists are not spellcasters, and therefore can’t select feats such as Craft Wondrous Item...

From all these I am pretty sure I can't benefit from this feat, BUT could I still take as dead feat and use it as prerequisite for Augment Summoning ?

As it doesn't have a pre req...

Ya actually. Dead feat but you can take it.

I'm pretty sure you don't get any benefit from Augment Summoning either. Only works on creatures summoned with spells.

It helps the archetype literally says you can.

The ONE TIME I don't double check to make sure I'm not misremembering...

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It's ok it's the one time I actually did.
