The trailers lean on jump scares pretty hard--is the show itself more subtle?

Definitely. A lot of underlying dread along with some jump scares.

Yeah it has that vibe which is a good way to start with a character that really isn't a super hero in the traditional sense.

I thouroughly enjoyed the first episode I must say. And I love the use of practical effects wherever possible. These people have a love for what they are doing and it shows.

To me it reads more like shenanigans on the part of the state that they're chocking up to accounting errors. It's hard to suddenly go from 30M in incentives, to a share of 12M without a bit of shadiness.

Looking forward to finally catching it. Thought it was interesting though that CW is promoting it as Swamp Thing Season 1, which while technically true, somewhat suggests there could be future seasons. Wonder if it does well on network if they're considering reviving it.
