Pathfinder Society and Second Edition

Pathfinder Society

I know that the Second Edition of Pathfinders is coming out fairly soon, and I was wondering if anyone had any clue when the first edition might be phased out in favor of the second edition in Pathfinder Society. When I play Pathfinder, I play in Society, and if there is an ETA, I want to be getting ready. I've tried looking for information on this, and I can't find anything so far.

With the launch of Pathfinder 2 in August of 2019, Paizo will stop producing new PFS scenarios for Pathfinder 1. All scenarios released past that date will be for Pathfinder 2.

However there is no cutoff date past which you cannot play PFS1 scenarios. As long as people want to play them, GMs and VOs can schedule them. So the answer is “PFS1 will be available as long as your local lodge keeps scheduling the scenarios.”

After GenCon (August) no new scenarios will be published for 1st edition, but you can still play all the old content and those sessions will even count for any support that is requested.

It might be that some modules/APs that haven't been PFS sanctioned will receive sanctioning after GenCon, but I think the OP team is trying to get the ones currently queued ready before that time.

The best advice I can give anyone is to play both editions of Pathfinder as they want to play them. I know for the two events I organize monthly we will be offering both editions for as long as the players want them.

Now, personally I will shift my focus to Second Edition at those events mainly because the players are expecting me to run those sessions, but I will also play and run some First Edition stuff over time. We foresee offering First Edition for at least three more years easily. It will always come down to what the players want every time.

Between two live events, the online server, and PbP there will be plenty of chances to play both editions for a long, long time.

In my area when D&D 4e stopped putting out scenarios for their organized play society, it went on for another 2 years before the organized play stopped.

I can't speak for other areas, but I know the local community around here will likely be running PF1 games for a fair time to come.

Based on the playtest, when the time comes that interest in PF1 has dropped, many of us will likely switch over to 5e or stop with organized play all together.

Thanks so much for all the help, everyone! I'll check with people in my area to see if it looks like they want to switch over right away, and then I'll just keep an eye out for what actually happens.
