Trick attack with missed attack

Rules Questions

If a trick attack is successful on the trick but the attack misses is the effect from the trick still applied to the enemy?

IE if I use trick attack and apply flat footed on a successful trick but miss the attack roll and my operative has the ability to have the flat footed condition last for one round does it actually last the round or is it negated because of the missed attack?

We’ve always played it that the condition continues but I see other people playing it differently now.

Are you talking about debilitating trick and exploits that key off it?

You need to actually hit with a trick attack, so both the skill check and attack roll must be succesful.

So for the effect to continue after the actual trick attack is finished both must be successful. Ive been doing it wrong then as I’ve been allowing the effect to continue if the debilitating trick part was successful irregardless if the attack roll hit or not.

A lot of people have been doing it wrong. It was recently brought up in our play group and we have started making certain to spread the word.

Yeah and it’s partly my fault for not reading the ability and taking players reading of it for being right. My players for the most part are pretty good but once in awhile I need to double check to be sure.

I think people get mixed up on that one, because they look at Trick Attack, and not at Debilitating Trick.
