So my Ninja dual-wields Wakizashi as her main method of dealing damage to her foes. I've been trying to find what exactly it's weapon trait means and have come across a few different rules.
PRG:UC says - "When you use this weapon to deliver a coup de grace, it gains a +4 bonus to damage when calculating the DC of the Fortitude saving throw to see whether the target of the coup de grace dies from the attack. The bonus is not added to the actual damage of the coup de grace attack."
The Playtest Rulebook says - "On a critical hit, the weapon adds a weapon's damage die of the listed size. This damage increases to two dice if the weapon is master quality and three dice if the weapon is legendary. For instance, a master-quality rapier deals [2d8] additional piercing damage on a critical hit." (It technically says 2d6 but is a typo)
I'm sure there are other rules also explaining what this trait does and how it works, but I'm just curious as to what rule is the most commonly used.
If it is the Former rule, I have a follow-up question; is there a way to get the coup de grace benefit without the foe being 'helpless'? Similar to the Ninja Master Trick, but I want to know if there is a possible trail of feats to get there instead of investing 10 levels into the ninja class.
Thank you

The playtest rulebook is for PF2, Ultimate Combat is for PF1. If you're playing a ninja then you're playing PF1.
& yes, you can perform a coup de grace if you have the throat slicer feat and your enemy is bound or pinned (as a result of a couple of successful grapple checks), of if you have the dastardly finish feat (prereq: sneak attack +5d6) and your enemy is cowering or stunned.
