1st / 2nd level rebuild

So, this is mostly for clarification's sake.

When rebuilding a character for 2nd level, they can change pretty much everything, including faction, yes?

I'm presuming that if you change faction in a rebuild, you cannot retain a campaign trait from the original faction?

My final question is the one I'm most interested in, because I'm the most unsure about it. If you rebuild into another faction, what happens to the prestige/fame from the original faction? Are there issues/consequences for having multiple factions listed on the character?

Yes.

No, you no longer qualify for those traits. On the plus side, you now qualify for traits from your new faction.

It doesn't really matter. Ostensibly there are mechanisms to track faction fame/prestige separately, which as far as I know were set up years and years ago to measure how well the factions were doing, because back then the idea was that they were competing with each other. That's not relevant anymore, the factions made peace with each other five years ago.

There are a couple of consequences for switching faction that you haven't mentioned yet:

- If you had a faction journal going for your old faction, and you switch, then you lose it. You don't get to retroactively claim checkmarks on the journal for your new faction. But of course from now on you can earn new checkmarks for your new faction.

- If you earned any boons tied to your specific old faction, those are lost. And if the scenarios you already played with the switching character could have earned you boons with the faction you're now joining, you don't gain those retroactively. But from now on you can earn boons for your new faction.

As an addendum, if you used any consumable items during your time as level 1 (potions, scrolls, alchemist's fire, etc.), you do not get the money back for those items to respend.

Necroing this (sorry!) but in regards to 2nd edition.

I've earned 12 xp so far with Grand Archive but completely changing my character and switching to Horizon Hunters.

Rebuilding Your Character

You may find that there are aspects of your character where you’re not entirely sure about your decisions, such as the ancestry or class feat you chose. Don’t worry! While your character is 1st level, you can rebuild as often as you need to, changing any of these choices. Until you play a game in which your character has 12 or more XP, you can freely rebuild your character completely except for Reputation earned and character number.

You can completely rebuilt a character at 12 xp, however he will still have earned his Rep up until that point with GA. You are free to switch to HH going forward, but not to reallocate the previously earned Rep to the new faction.

Edit: which makes sense, I guess, since that info has been entered by the GM on the reporting website and would need to be changed by them.

Makes sense keeping GA points. Thanks!
