Pathfinder 2e and the Community Use Policy

The Pathfinder 2e playtest introduced a number of new assets, and as somebody who creates a (free) product under the Community Use Policy, I'd like some clarification of exactly where we stand legally.

The basic rules are covered by OGL, of course. The Paizo and Pathfinder logos are granted as part of the Community Use Package, along with iconics, faction symbols, etc.

But what about the new action icons? The class symbols? Elements used on the 2e character sheet, such as the proficiency boxes? These don't fall neatly into any categories I can see, so what am I allowed to use in my products?

I don't think any content from Pathfinder 2e has been released under the Community Use Policy yet. I mean, for one thing, it's possible that the action icons and symbols and such will change for the final release. It may be more helpful to ask when 2e products are likely to be added to the CUP.

Generally, questions about licenses should be sent to licensing@paizo.com. I've taken the liberty of sending them a message about this thread, as well as my own questions about the CUP as it relates to PF2 and when things are likely to be released under it.

The Community Use Policy is specifically designed to be edition agnostic, so it will not need to change when Second Edition is released. Instead, you'll just see the new assets for Second Edition added to the Community Use Package when they become available just like you do for other Paizo products. I don't have a specific ETA for that, other than it will be after launch and might take a little bit longer than normal due to the volume of new products.

Thanks for the poke, GM Rednal. :-)

Thanks for the response, Glenn. I'm glad to hear there's a plan, and that the terms of the CUP aren't changing. It makes sense, since Second Edition is a continuation of Pathfinder in terms of world and setting.

That does mean any third-party products for the Second Edition are likely to be held up until the Community Use Package is updated, so I hope it's not delayed too much.

10 months later...

What's the state of the Community Use Package now? There's some 2e content, but I still don't see things like the action icons anywhere.
