Old Promos

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

Hey everyone,

I was wondering is it worth it to buy old promo cards? I'm kind of a completionist, but I don't know if the cards are worth the money.

Thanks,
Grabnar

Anyone have any input at all?

Not really; you're getting 9 cards for $27+ if you're buying from the Paizo store and who knows how much from eBay. That's more than a Class Deck or half a new AP. It's your money, though.

You might have some luck asking the folks who organize your local Pathfinder Society events and/or ones at conventions. I've gotten a few from ours when they had extras.

Thank you much for your input. I just really like the Goblin characters, so I'll probably buy all future character promos.

Scarab Sages

The character promos might be worth it...but then again, maybe not. Some of them are...how should I put it...edge case characters, with attributes (hand size, skills / powers, deck makeup) all the way on one extreme or another. Likewise, the other promo cards, while flavorful, are not always the most useful items (with rare exceptions, like Poog of Zarongel the ally - he is really good). Typically, the goblin-themed boons have drawbacks, like damage to yourself or something at the cost of the effect.

It sounds like you have just started playing, so I would forget about these for now. They definitely should not be your first purchase. To get new characters, I would spring for the class decks, if you don't already have them - there are dozens of cool and interesting characters in there. Find a character class you like in Runelords and get the class deck for it...if Seelah, then the Paladin deck is great; if Kyra, then the Cleric class deck is great. Then augment it with one of the Ultimate decks. All of that is far more worth it, for the money, than the promo cards...and if you're a completionist, you can pick them up later. They are currently less expensive than they were at the start, so there might be advantages in waiting.

Yeah, I know I should get other things first, and believe me I have quite the long list. I also just started my subscription to PACG. I was gifted the promos that are on the Paizo website and was just wondering what was all out there, if the cards are worth it, and, most importantly, am I missing any character promo cards. Those are really the ones I care about the most. I'm excited for when I get the two goblin class decks.
