Crashing Wave Cleric and Channel Smite

Rules Questions

So I'm making a neutral cleric and I was looking at the crashing wave archetype and I was wondering can I use the option to use different channels (negative and positive) along with channel smite, IE: can I one round channel negative energy to hit a living creature for Xd6 and then the next round channel positive energy to hit an undead for Xd6? My concern is that neutral clerics have to pick positive or negative spells (cure or harm spells) and thus channel smite might only function with my "true" alignment channel (negative or positive).

A crashing wave doesn't choose positive or negative energy. Enemies are healed or take damage based purely on their alignment. So long as a creature has a non-neutral alignment your channel energy will do damage regardless if they are undead or not.

That being said, channel smite only functions if you channel negative or positive energy so it wouldn't do anything for a crashing wave.

If you dropped the archetype your neutral cleric could take the feat Versatile Channeler which lets you pick each time you channel energy if it's positive or negative. This, combined with channel smite would let you do what you're proposing.

yeah, I was hoping to save myself the feats, because I our parties driver and healer (long story, we may have stolen more than a few boats) and I'm spec'd out for skill driver: Boats/Expert driver which our DM has flavored double turning is equivalent of drifting and I'm not entirely sure I can part with that idea for ~15 damage on my first melee attack,

thank you though Vers. channel is quite nice
