Kitsune Shifter

Advice

Had an idea based on an old character of mine. Wondering how to flesh her out.

So she was a kitsune but more akin to the native American stories of Coyote rather than the Japanese yokai. She was definitely more intelligent than charismatic so I'm thinking the alternative stat adjustment from Blood of Beasts where it's Dex+Int, and maybe Skilled in exchange for the Kitsune Magic and Agile, fun as the latter is.

Beyond that though, I really don't know how to build this character. A Str penalty is going to hurt the build, and the Shifter seems to be Wis-based for most of its features and its unarmored bonus. Natural attacks are finessable so maybe going Dex build? That's going to eat up a lot of feats though to pull off, since not only are Shifter Claws, but the Kitsune bite, are both 1d4 weapons (to start). I've also never really done a natural attacks build to know what kind of things are needed that way.

So stat layout, potential Archtypes, and feats are all kind of in my needed advice on this one if anyone can offer a hand?

Are you intending to run around in your natural kitsune form? Because you'd lose the benefit of Shifter Claws in either human or Fox Shape.

That said, the claws aren't the entire class. You could run something like Adaptive Shifter (which I think is generally stronger than the base class), since those abilities are usable in any form. You could even do something like nab the Fox Shape bonus feat from the racial trait, then pick up the movement, stealth, and sense boosting forms to become an excellent scout type. Spiked Form also allows you to make a viable thrown ranged build with self-regenerating ammunition.

I was looking at that. I ended up statting out a Weretouched Shifter so I got the hybrid form bull, so my natural attack collection at 4 was Gore, Bite, Claw ×2. Bull also patched the Str problem with its minor aspect, and the whole build will benefit very strongly from Shifter's Edge as a Dex build.

Collecting further natural attacks in the hybrid form is priority. Since the hybrid is still partially natural form, it means all my natural attacks can benefit from Shifter's Claws, and thus Edge, resulting in some pretty nasty full attacks.

Since Change Shape and Wild Shape are both polymorph effects, the character can't really benefit from Vulpine Pounce which popped up in my research. Unfortunate because the horns want to charge for powerful charge, but the character cannot be simultaneously in human and hybrid form in order to fulfill the requirement of swift action shifting to natural form and charging in one turn.

Take a peek at the new Shapeshifter Style line. It's got some good flavor, and can also help boost the damage of a favorite natural attack while giving some other defensive and offensive benefits.
