Not really a rules question, but I'm kind of confused. I have a Bonded Witch who selected a Wand as her Bonded Item. Looking at the spells I can cast with it, I noticed the level 9 spell is an Empowered and Maximized Fire Shield.
Fire Shield does 1d6 damage, +1 per level, max of +15. Empowered increases the random part of the spell by +50% and Maximized...maximizes it.
So as I understand it, all of this ensures that the most powerful spell I can use from my wand is a 24 damage fire shield.
I'm...not sure what the point of that is, so I'm wondering if I'm missing something?

An empowered maximised damaging spell does the maximum damage of the normal spell, plus half the normal rolled damage. Including any flat bonus to the roll in the rolled damage.
e.g. If you rolled 20 damage on your empowered maximised fire shield you'd do 21 + (20/2) = 31 damage. Not worth a 9th level spell IMO, but it is more than 24.

Well, Fire Shield lasts 1 round per level, and applies every time you are hit. That average 30 hp damage can apply to a lot of hits, and do way more than a measly ave Emp & Max Fireball at 95 hp once to all creatures in an area. However, if you are hit a lot, that could cause other problems.... :-)
