How would Sarenrae respond to Military School?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

This idea might have been done before and I simply haven't heard of it, but I decided to make an intimidation focused paladin of Sarenrae. I explained his unorthodox way of going about being a paladin by basically saying he got put through paladin military school. From a young age, he was raised in the temple of Sarenrae in Vigi. He refused to listen to the priests who tried treating him normally, so they let the paladins raise him, who got through to him. It took a more militaristic approach to get through to him, less diplomacy, more intimidation.

The reason I bring this up is that I've had people mention that they think that the character's methods, (I.E. shouting at people to "REPENT NOW, SEEK REDEMPTION FOR YOUR EVIL WAYS, OR BE DRAGGED BELOW INTO HELLFIRE!") would go against the religion's teachings. I personally think they wouldn't, as sometimes simply being nice and talking isn't going to be enough to get someone to realize their errors. But what do you all think? Do you think the church would disagree with using intimidation to start someone's road to redemption, or would they be fine with it?

The chruch of Sarenrae is a militant religion so I don't think intimidation would go against it. According to Sarenrae Those that refuse to change their ways or are unable to to change their ways (eg undead, demons, etc.) should be put to the sword. She's not really the touchy feely type when it comes to evil.

You might point out that there are gentler gods of redemption like Korada, who specifically is a seeker of peace and forgiveness.

No, I don't think intimidation is out of the question at all. If nothing else, intimidation is a means to end hostilities, usually a prerequisite for more lasting and genuine repentance.

For what it's worth, shouting: "REPENT NOW, SEEK REDEMPTION FOR YOUR EVIL WAYS, OR BE DRAGGED BELOW INTO HELLFIRE!" is a lot less aggressive than murdering them and having their souls dragged below into hellfire. So as far as I can see you're a peace-loving hippy.

Of course, if they don't listen to him, the character would kill them and let their souls get what they deserve. And the point of the intimidation is more to break the mindset of 'I'm the strongest, so I am the best and no one can disagree with me', or other mindsets that prevent active diplomacy. A person who dies evil not only suffers eternally, but is yet another servant for the evil gods. So he considers it a duty to prevent it, even if he must use not so nice tactics.

Your character sounds like an absolutely fantastic character to share a table with.
Besides, having slightly less "normal" approaches to repentance opens up some great doors for RP.

Thanks! I kind of made him as a psuedo troll character. The campaign was full of dex using weeb characters (they'd use anime characters for their art, and act out most of the tropes). So I decided to make a loud as possible, holy as possibly, brutal knight character who always stomped around in full plate with a greatsword. He joined the Sandpoint Choir.
