So you can’t paint a holy symbol and have it count as a focus without this feat? How are regular divine foci made which others can use? I'd think a painted holy symbol would be just as much of a divine focus as a wooden (or iron, silver, etc) one you wear on your neck. The fact that this feat even exists goes to show that Clerics aren't well designed to be able to fight with weapons and cast spells at the same time. It shouldn't be a feat tax just to avoid 2 actions just to cast a spell in combat if you use a two handed weapon (8 of the 20 core deities) or use a weapon and shield by having to drop or sheath a weapon or switch to a 1 handed grip, and then back to wielding it, over and above the actions needed to cast the spell in the first place.

The rules should simply state that a holy symbol could be painted on armor or shield for the same price as one worn on a necklace.
