Graviton Pistol and Trick Attack

So, I was looking through the Armory, and saw the graviton pistol. It seemed interesting, especially for the melee operative I'm building to use as a back-up when she can't get close enough. However, I checked the operative, and trick attack has the following wording (emphasis mine):

Trick Attack wrote:

You can trick or startle a foe and then attack when she drops her guard. As a full action, you can move up to your speed. Whether or not you moved, you can then make an attack with a melee weapon with the operative special property or with any small arm. Just before making your attack, attempt a Bluff, Intimidate, or Stealth check (or a check associated with your specialization; see page 94) with a DC equal to 20 + your target’s CR. If you succeed at the check, you deal 1d4 additional damage and the target is flat-footed. This damage increases to 1d8 at 3rd level, to 3d8 at 5th level, and by an additional 1d8 every 2 levels thereafter. You can’t use this ability with a weapon that has the unwieldy special property or that requires a full action to make a single attack.

This seems to imply that if your attack doesn't innately do damage, that the trick attack won't do additional damage, but I can't find anything saying whether or not that's accurate. Given that the graviton pistol has a damage entry of "—", I'd like to know if it's possible to trick attack with it an do the extra damage.

Thanks!

I would, at the very least, not allow you to deal trick attack damage with a weapon that does not otherwise deal damage.

I would agree that the trick attack would not do any extra damage because it is specifically the same type as the weapon deals; if the weapon doesn't deal damage, then the extra damage is of [empty set] type, and doesn't resolve.

Keep in mind, if Trick Attack (or Overcharge, or Specialization, or anything, really) added damage to weapons without a damage trait, then you would hurt people you're trying to protect with a Shield Generator.
