Advice

Starting a new Core PC for PFS.

Without the hybrid classes, I've been noticing a distinct lack of knowledge skills. I thought about bard/chronicler, but there seem to be lots of paladins, sorcerers, and clerics who have good face skills. Plus I've never really been a fan of the bard without arctypes.

So I'm looking at wizard and possibly lore master. But not really sure which school to go for. Conjuration and evocation are too similar to other PC's I've played recently.

Abjuration gives deflection bonus, resistance, and energy absorption. Nice bonus to survival. No major bonus to offense.

Divination gives bonus to initiative and acting in the surprise round. Fits real well with my theme of high knowledge skills. No major plus to offense.

Necromancy is an interesting possibility. Gives channel to control undead. Won't be able to animate any undead until 7th level. But still a few nasty offensive spells. Could multi with a level of undead sorcerer to use some more spells on undead.

Those are currently my leading contenders. What are your thoughts on these or other choices?

Core divination spells mostly aren't good, at least in a dungeon. Aside from see invisibility you'll be struggling to fill the bonus spell slots.

Isn't casting [evil] spells like animate dead a problem in PFS?

Abjuration is decent.

Core transmutation spells can require careful setup for good effect (e.g. pyrotechnics) but they're not bad.

Animate dead is considered ok, if you aren't stepping on the toes of the other pc's. For example, I wouldn't use it in front of a cleric of Pharesma. However, a lot of the core necromancy spells are touch or close range. Reach meta magic isn't core. Not sure I want to chance getting that close.

Yeah, the core div spells aren't great. But the bonus to initiate and acting in the surprise round is excellent.

Think I'm narrowed to div or abj.
