Kinetic Knight Kinetic Blast Question

Rules Questions

Scarab Sages

Let me preface this by saying that I find the Kineticist to be the one class whose rules I find utterly mind boggling. Now, I have a player who has built an Earth Kinetic Knight. Rather than stifle player creativity, I will be doing my best to figure this class out.

The rules for Kinetic Knight state: At 1st level, a kinetic knight gains the kinetic blade form infusion, and it costs 0 points of burn instead of 1 point. She can’t use her kinetic blast without the kinetic blade form infusion or an infusion that lists kinetic blade as a prerequisite.

1) To be clear, does this mean a kinetic knight cannot make a ranged attack with a kinetic blast?
2) Does the kinetic blade stay in existence after it is used, for attacks of opportunity?
3) Does a physical kinetic blade add CON (mentioned in kinetic blast) to damage and STR since its a weapon?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

1) Yes, you are limited to Kinetic Blade or later Kinetic Whip (and any other forms I'm not familiar with possibly provided in the archetype itself). This means no ranged or AOE attacks unless they for some reason require blade.

2) kinetic blade does not stick around for AoO, Whip does. Unless the archetype modifies this, that's still the case.

3) Con yes, Str no. It's a physical blast, but not a physical weapon. It deals damage based on the strength of the SLA not the strength of the user.

If you look at the Kinetic Blade, it actually calls out that you do not add your Strength mod to the damage, despite it being a melee attack.
