Any word on what is happening for us Aussies with subscriptions and our local Government changes to GST laws

Extending this tax to cover small value items from overseas is estimated to raise less than it will cost to regulate compliance (not to mention the fact that the ATO has very little scope to actually penalise any overseas supplier who just refuses to remit the GST).

It’s a triumph of politics over policy. :(

Dotting because New Zealand is going to do the same thing, despite the fact that enforcement has always been expected to cost more than it would collect.

Both of which jumped Common Sense in a dark alley, beat it unconscious, and went through it's pockets for loose change.

We will be required to collect and remit GST on Australian orders placed on July 1 and beyond.

(If there's anything you've had your eye on, you might want to snap it up in June...)

We are under NZ's proposed annual sales threshold, so it doesn't look like we would need to do this for them anytime soon.
