Can you use the Point-Blank Shot feat with a ranged touch attack.

Rules Questions

I have a cleric that I am in the process of building. He has the Fire domain which grants the Fire Bolt spell. This is a ranged touch attack with a limit of 30 ft. It would be ideal to take the Point-blank shot feat to work with this spell. Is it allowed?

This is a core rules question, so I've flagged it to be moved.

Yes, it works.

Sczarni

Yes, indeed!

The Exchange

Yes.

why would it NOT be?

A possible reason is that Point-Blank Shot specifies ranged weapons, and not all ranged touch spells count as weapons. So, for example, you can take Weapon Focus (Ray), but not Weapon Focus (Fire Bolt).

I have no idea if that means Point-Blank Shot acts the same way as Weapon Focus, and I’d let it apply at a table I was running, but I can understand why there might be a need to ask the question.

If you find someone who's questioning, here's their answer ^_^

Nice. Thanks! I didn’t know that FAQ was out there.

It's also a favorite with energy-only Kineticists, like Fire & Aether, as well as Precise Shot.

Kinetic Blast has this helpful line:

“Kinetic blasts count as a type of weapon for the purpose of feats such as Weapon Focus. ”

So it’s much more obvious that feats that mention weapons work (without having to track down an FAQ). I’m glad that FAQ exists for everything else.
